MANIFESTO

We are RE⇌ACTIVITY(founded:2018); a collective with its primary focus on spaces and mechanisms of knowledge production and sharing. We are particularly interested in over-looked and informal knowledge, like bathroom graffiti, or words spoken in transit. We also emphasize the power of print and experimental forms of publishing.

PROJECTS

Cache+Rules_stretchglitch.jpg

CACHE RULES EVERYTHING AROUND ME

acknowledging the digital shift as having residues and grey areas, but also investigating the powers of it in the form of digital archives, hard drives, whatsapp conversations, screenshots and social media, as well as radio, television, music and podcasts

THRIFT DRIFT

delving into information passed down from generation to generation, as well as “second-hand” information in the form of books, notes in books, and second hand clothing and objects and their residual archives

BARTHROOM CHATS

a closer look at the conversations that are had in bar-bathrooms – or different organic spaces of undervalued conversations, and a look at bathroom graffiti on doors and the concept of leaving public marks

CREATIVE CONJUICEIVITY

here we look at the magic of collaboration and group work, we will hold zine jam and think tank workshops, with juice boxes for morale, and engage with topics with the collective and invited guests. These conversations inform the content and collaborations to come, and a zine from each workshop is included in the box-set of the first volume of our publication

SILKSCREEN SUITCASE

the project is an offshoot from a portable silkscreen workshop concept established by the MEDU art ensemble, a group of “cultural workers” (mostly comprised of South African exiles) who produced political posters in the late 1970’s. Re-contextualizing this idea in the contemporary moment, our collective views and uses our hand-crafted silkscreen suitcase as a vehicle for knowledge dissemination; a tool kit; and a point at which varying forms of knowledge systems intersect.

NOTIONS IN MOTION

placing value on the rich information and knowledge held in the conversations and observations in public transport such as taxis, buses, bus-stops and Ubers
